Her albums\, “Mars… Back and Forth” and “Kouni\,” defy genre and explore identity. She also fosters improvisation in Arabic music aesthetics and conducts workshops globally. Huda combines music and engineering with 10+ years of research experience and is a prolific academic writer. Explore her work at hudaasfour.com . \n\n\n\n\nAbout Farah Barqawi \nFarah is a Palestinian author\, performer\, and a feminist organizer. Her poetry and essays have appeared in multiple languages on online platforms and in multiple anthologies. In 2019\, She produced and hosted a season of the Arabic podcast Eib (Shame). She wrote and performed her solo piece\, “Baba\, Come to Me”. She is the co-founder of two feminist projects: Wiki Gender and The Uprising of Women in the Arab World\, and she is currently finishing her MFA in nonfiction creative writing from New York University in Spring 2024.

DESCRIPTION:Yahya Ashour will be reading poems about the war in Gaza\, and will take questions from the audience afterwards. \nABOUT YAHYA ASHOUR \nYahya Ashour is an award-winning author and a touring poet. He was born in Gaza in 1998 and lived his whole life there\, through multiple wars and the siege. Yahya is an author of a children’s book and a poetry collection in Arabic. He’s an honorary fellow in writing at the University of Iowa\, his poetry was translated to 5 languages and his writings were published in several journals and anthologies around the world. He is going to be a resident at the international city of Arts in Paris in 2024. He read and spoke at several universities in the US including Princeton University and University of Pennsylvania\, Vanderbilt University and University of Michigan. He has been in the US since September 2023\, unable to go back home. \nYahya Ashour is a touring poet and an award-winning author. \n• He was born in Gaza\, Palestine\, April 22\, 1998. \n• He published two books in Arabic: \n– 2021\, “That’s Why Ryan Walks This Way”\, a children’s book. \n– 2018\, “You’re A Window\, They’re Clouds”\, a poetry collection. \n• He’s going to be a resident at the International City of Arts in Paris\, France\, from March through May 2024. \n• He’s an honorary fellow at the University of Iowa\, U.S.A.\, and a 2022 fall resident of the International Writing Program held there. \n• He read and spoke at Princeton University\, University of Pennsylvania\, Vanderbilt University\, University of Michigan\, Wake Forest University\, Michigan State University\, University of Iowa\, and other universities\, churches\, and organizations. \n– He also gave lectures at some of these universities on Gaza and Palestine\, Quran and Islam\, and Arabic Literature\, focusing on the sociological and psychological aspects of these topics. \n• His children’s book won the Arab Children’s Books Publishers Forum award in 2022. The book was also shortlisted by the iBBY chapter in Palestine for the iBBY International Honor List 2022-2024. \n– He also won several local writing contests. \n• He was the youngest poet to be featured in the anthology of Palestinian Poetry Today which featured poets born between the 1970s and the 1990s\, edited and translated by the renowned French-Morrocan poet Abdellatif Laabi. \n• His writings were featured in several online and printed\, local and international journals based in the U.S.\, the UK\, Germany\, Italy\, Mexico\, and Finland\, and anthologies published in Palestine\, France\, Italy\, and Sweden. \n• His writings were translated into 5 languages: English\, Spanish\, French\, Italian\, and Finnish. \n• He worked as a mentor for children and youth in creative writing and critical thinking at some of the most prominent organizations in Gaza\, like Tamer\, Qattan\, Nawa\, and Amideast. \n• He earned a BA in Sociology/Psychology in 2020. He was also an exchange student in the US in 2014-15\, through the KL-YES program. \n• He survived 6 military aggressions on Gaza\, in 2009\, 2012\, 2014\, 2021\, 2022\, and May of 2023\, and lived through the siege on Gaza. He has been in the US since September 2023 on a B1 visa\, unable to go back home. \n• During the war\, both his family’s house of 5 floors and his family’s business were destroyed\, and he lost 1 cousin and 7 friends. His family of 19 (his mother\, his siblings\, and their spouses and children) was forced to flee to the south of Gaza and has been surviving under severe circumstances since the beginning of the war.

She is a natural storyteller whose music\, through the tenderness of her oud and the lyricism of her compositions\, challenges taboos and stereotypes. An exceptional improviser who has over the years collaborated with artists spanning countries from the USA to China. \nSince the establishment of her first band with Tamer Abu Ghazaleh in 2003\, Huda has released two studio albums; ‘Mars\, Kouni ’and Resource Culture The by funded \, جـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـاي ورايـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـحة‘ (2011) Arts for Fund Arab the from grant a by supported \, كـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـونـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ـي‘\, (2018) and Culture. Over the past 10 years\, she has collaborated and performed with artists across the globe. She is the co-founder of the DC Palestinian Film and Arts Festival and Mashriq Maghreb\, LLC. In March of 2019\, she was nominated for the Aga Khan Music Awards for the Performance category. She is currently developing improvisation curricula for conducted improvisations supported by a grant from Mophradat arts funding organization. \nIn addition to her work in music\, Dr. Asfour is also a Biomedical Engineer with over 10 years of research and teaching experience.

DESCRIPTION:As a part of the La La Lil Jidar: 20 Years Behind the Apartheid Wall programming\, InLiquid invites you to join us on Thursday\, October 5th\, in the InLiquid Gallery for a screening of Walled Citizen\, directed and produced by Palestinian filmmaker Sameer Qumsiyeh. \nWalled Citizen documents Sameer Qumsiyeh as he attempts to explore the planet as a backpacker defying the restrictions of movement imposed on him as a holder of one of the world’s weakest ranking passports. Over the period of 3 years\, Sameer Qumsiyeh travels with his personal camera from Palestine to Europe to the Canary Islands and Ecuador (featuring The Amazon) documenting his encounters with other freedom seekers\, wanderers\, refugees\, immigrants\, indigenous communities and nomads all of whom are facing the physical and non-physical walls that are erected between people in our modern time.

There is limited accessible parking at the front of the building\, and a ramp leading into the main entrance. The main building door is not automated. Two all-gender bathrooms with multiple stalls are available for use — one with urinals\, one without\, and both with 1–2 wheelchair-accessible stall(s).
