Who we are
The overall aim of this project is to use photography, in combination with first hand testimonies from Palestine, to elicit an emotional response. This multimedia work is a direct response to the lack of truthful news on mainstream media, which has a proven track record of biased reporting when it comes to Palestine/Israel.
As a collective of artists and activists, known as the La La Lil Jidar Collective, we intend for the public to see how this global fight is deeply integral and tied to the local fights in our US cities. We believe that with knowledge we are able to shift the mainstream narrative on Palestine/Israel, while simultaneously building local community struggles through solidarity against all forms of violence.
Exhibit
The exhibit consists of four different photographic series; Then and Now, Violence and Resistance, the Wall, and Portraits. This collection provides a visual glimpse into life behind the Apartheid Wall through a nearly two-decade time span. Each photo is accompanied by audio clips from Palestine, bringing the voice of the people into the gallery space, telling, in their own words, how the Wall has directly affected them.
The most recent exhibit was located in Studio 34 Yoga Healing Arts in Philadelphia PA from December 1, 2023 – January 29, 2024.
The initial exhibit was located in InLiquid Art Gallery in Philadelphia PA from September 14- November 11 2023.
Public Art
To make this project more inclusive, and outside the four walls of the gallery, we are bringing the art to the community. Posters are available on the site as a way to share art as a form of solidarity. This is another artistic method of information sharing as community members, one which cannot be seen on our tv’s.
Resources
This website, a hub that will connect the gallery and the local community, will also provide necessary resources in the city. The resource page will take the viewer to external spaces to engage with both Palestine solidarity, as well as local solidarity.
